Meandering Roads

Summer 2013, Camino de Santiago, Spain

At the height of my burnout from medicine, I left everything to go for an 800-kilometre walk. I went on pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. I experienced such incredible physical pain, and such simplicity of spirit, during those five weeks in Spain.

Where else would I hear Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes in the stillness of a humble church?

Or tell my life's story to a friend who four hours ago was a stranger?

Or walk in the peaceful pre-dawn darkness with the Perseid meteor shower overhead?
